Water, water everywhere but not enough for us to use our hose!

2011 beautiful Dunstable Town Council Flower display in the Square

It was noted at the Town Council Meeting this evening (which is open for the public to attend) that Dunstable Town Council has been advised by the water authority that restrictions on hose pipe use now applies! Let's hope we have enough rain for all the towns beautiful hanging baskets and other flower displays this summer, if they can't use their hose pipe!

Dunstable / My old home town by Paul Keating

I first moved to Dunstable in 2001 just before the birth of my first Daughter. Having moved from Staines, South West London, I was apprehensive to say the least about bringing my new family to a strange far away place.
I remember my first impression of Dunstable being a very busy industrial town with two scary roundabouts at the junction of High Street North and West Street. I called them “suicide roundabouts” because people almost seemed to close their eyes behind the wheel of their cars and stamp on the accelerator to get through! These roundabouts were soon replaced by the worst phasing of traffic lights in the history of Bedfordshire............

Paul contacted 'About Dunstable' with regard to using some of our photographs which were more than happy for him to use for this piece on Dunstable.

To read Paul's full story please click on the link below ~ It makes for an excellent read and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Kingsbury Bowls Club

Is holding Open Days next weekend, 5 & 6 May. Everyone who would like to have a go at this great sport is welcome - young or old. You just need to be wearing flat shoes.
Access to the Green is either across the part from Jeans Way, or through the small car park on Kingsbury Avenue, off Luton Road.

Dunstable busy...even when it's wet!

Having just taken the wellies to town, I was most surprised to see so many people about in this grotty weather. Holland & Barrett said they had been very busy, I also noticed this as I was gradually moving down the queue. Good to see so many people shopping locally. There was even a buzz about the market, with people dodging in and out the sheltered areas. Be vocal ~ Shop local and help keep our town alive!

Dunstable Skyline changes forever..........

The old ABC Travel Guides which once stood in Church street fell to the ground today, it was the last of the three tall buildings that once stood on the side of Church Street Dunstable.

Demolition has been taking place for some weeks to clear this huge site for a new housing estate. We will keep you up to date with plans as soon as we know more.

However we believe that over two hundred and fifty houses will be built on this site, along with Care facilities and a small retail area.

Housing for the community and hopefully local jobs from construction to career prospects in the new retail and Care facility.

Dunstable in Bloom Meeting.

It was great to see so many people at the Dunstable in Bloom meeting today. There is a lot of hard work to do but hopefully Dunstable will be ready for the judges from Anglia in Bloom when they arrive in early July.

With a route being planned, a portfolio being written and arranged, competitions being announced and fund raising for a colourful flower display in Dunstable everything is looking rosy!

There are lots of people involved in 'Dunstable in Bloom' From Public Houses with their basket and garden displays, to Dunstable Town Council with preparation of their 'Green Flag' award Garden's ~ Grove Garden and Priory Garden. Also street display raised beds, roundabouts and railing boxes full of flowers and much more. From allotment awards and front gardens awards.......the list just goes on.

So be proud of your garden and town ~ Here's hoping with everyone's hard work ~ including yours ~ Dunstable receives another GOLD award for the third year!

All helping to celebrate the colours of the Queens Diamond Jubilee and the 2012 Olympics. Dunstable Town Mayor Claire Meekins-Jell and Dunstable Town and CBC Councillors were also helping to sow seeds, chat with people and enjoy some exhilarating Zumba! Enthusiastic Ana and her Zumba ladies were also at the event encouraging everyone to take part and enjoy the Zumba!

It was a brilliant community event.
